Parking in Bernal Heights
Narrow streets, tight garages, and Excelsior driveways
Bernal and Glen Park were laid out before cars, and it shows. Streets on the north slope of Bernal and around Glen Canyon are narrow, steep, and often one-way, with garages carved into the hillside that fit a modern SUV with inches to spare. The southern hills sit on the sunny side of the city's fog line. Bernal Heights and Glen Park often have blue sky while the Sunset is grey, and the Excelsior is warmer and drier still. That means paint here is rarely rinsed by fog and instead sits under UV with whatever the wind delivered. Bernal Hill is the wind machine: a bare, grassy summit that funnels afternoon gusts down every slope and carries fine dry dust and pollen onto cars parked below.
