Spring bloom dusts every street-parked car with yellow pollen, and the ficus along Dolores and most residential blocks is dripping sap. A Signature detail clears both — and steam-cleans the cabin so allergy season isn't twice as bad inside the car.

Services in San Francisco

Built for cars that live on SF streets

Every San Francisco appointment is shaped around what fog, salt air, hills, and street parking do to paint and interiors. Mix services into a package below, or message us if you need a custom scope.

Exterior Hand Wash — Fog & Salt Rinse

Two-bucket wash with grit guards and pH-balanced shampoo, tuned for what San Francisco actually leaves on paint overnight: marine-layer moisture, salt mist along the coastal districts (Sunset, Richmond, Marina, Sea Cliff), and the streaky white water spots that fog drops onto a dark hood by morning.

Bird Dropping & Tree Sap Spot Removal

Pigeons, seagulls, and the ficus and eucalyptus along Dolores, the Panhandle, and most residential blocks are why SF clear coats fail early. Droppings are acidic and start etching within hours under sun. We use safe-detail solvents and gentle agitation — not the paper towel and water improvisation that grinds the residue in.

Interior Detailing & Mildew-Prevention Deep Clean

Cars that sit on the street through fog season carry moisture into the cabin: damp floor mats, foggy windows, mildew under the seats. Full vacuum, surface wipe-down, glass inside and out, plus a steam pass on upholstery and carpets when the car has been soaking it up for weeks.

Wheel & Brake Dust Deep Clean

Driving SF means braking constantly — Russian Hill, Nob Hill, the climb out of the Mission, every descent toward the Embarcadero. Brake dust cakes onto wheels harder than it ever does on the Peninsula. Dedicated wheel cleaner, soft brushes, and a separate set of mitts so the grit never touches the paint.

Ceramic-Grade Paint Protection

A street-parked SF car gets UV, salt air, droppings, and sap — usually all in one week. Sealants and ceramic-grade finishes bond to the clear coat, reduce how deeply acidic contaminants can etch, and make every subsequent wash faster. The most cost-effective protection you can put on a car that lives outside.

Clay Bar & Urban Contaminant Removal

Exhaust soot from heavy traffic corridors, construction dust around SoMa and Mission Bay, overspray, brake dust, tar pickup from Embarcadero and 280 on-ramps — washing alone leaves all of it bonded to the paint. Clay bar lifts the layer washing can't reach, before any sealant or coating is applied.

Why San Francisco chooses R1 Shine

The detailers who treat your car like their own

Built for people who care about their vehicle and don't have the option of a private garage, a driveway hookup, or a half day at the dealership.

Built for cars that never see a driveway

Most San Francisco customers park on the street, in a shared garage, or in an apartment loading zone. We don't need any of the things a fixed shop assumes — driveway, hose bib, outlet. Our van carries everything and works wherever you legally park.

Fog, salt air, and bird-dropping defense

Three things wreck SF paint faster than anything else: marine-layer water spotting, salt residue along the coast, and acidic droppings that etch within hours. Every package is built around catching those early — and ceramic protection is the most cost-effective answer for a car parked outdoors year-round.

Honest pricing, no district premium

Same flat pricing whether you're in Pacific Heights or the Outer Sunset. We confirm vehicle-size adjustments before we start, never after we've half-cleaned the interior. No surprise upsells when you're picking the car up — because you don't have to go anywhere.

Hill-aware wheel and brake-dust care

Russian Hill, Nob Hill, Twin Peaks, the climb out of the Mission — SF braking cakes brake dust onto wheels worse than anywhere flat. The Signature and Elite packages include a deeper wheel pass with dedicated cleaner so the dust doesn't get baked permanently into the finish.

Frequently asked

San Francisco mobile detailing FAQ

Common questions from San Francisco customers before they book. Don't see yours? Message us on WhatsApp — answers usually come back within an hour.

How much does mobile car detailing cost in San Francisco?

Packages in San Francisco start at $140 for the Essential service (exterior wash + interior vacuum + wheels), $200 for the Signature service (everything in Essential plus deep interior cleaning, upholstery shampoo, and spray wax), and $280 for the Elite service (showroom-level restoration with clay bar and paint protection). Pricing is flat for standard sedans across every SF neighborhood — Pacific Heights to the Outer Sunset, same price. SUVs, trucks, oversized vehicles, pet hair, and heavily soiled interiors may need adjustments; we'll confirm before we start.

My car only parks on the street. Can you still detail it?

Yes — this is most of what we do in San Francisco. We work curbside, in apartment loading zones, in driveways shared between units, in residential garages, and in the parking lots of offices and gyms. Our van is self-contained (water tank, generator, vacuums), so we don't need a hookup. As long as there's enough room to open both passenger-side doors and walk around the car, we can detail it where it sits.

Do you handle bird droppings on short notice?

If a seagull or pigeon got your hood or roof and you've already booked with us recently, message us — we can usually do a quick spot-treatment add-on within a day or two before the etching sets in. For brand-new customers we'll fold it into the next available Essential or Signature slot, which in most parts of San Francisco is the same week.

How often should I detail my car if I park outside near the coast?

For cars parked outdoors in Sunset, Richmond, Marina, Sea Cliff, or anywhere within a few blocks of the bay or ocean: a Signature-level detail every 2 to 3 months keeps salt residue off the paint and protection on the clear coat. Inland neighborhoods (Mission, Noe Valley, Pacific Heights) can usually stretch to every 3 to 4 months. Cars kept in apartment garages are closer to the inland cadence.

Is ceramic coating worth it for a street-parked car in San Francisco?

For a car parked on an SF street: yes, more than almost anywhere else in the Bay Area. UV, salt air, bird droppings, and tree sap all reach the paint constantly with no garage in between. A ceramic-grade finish doesn't make the car bulletproof, but it slows down etching from droppings and sap, reduces water spotting from fog, and makes routine washing faster. The payback on a daily driver is usually 12 to 24 months versus untreated paint.

Will you detail my car in my apartment garage?

Yes — apartment and condo garages are a normal venue for us in San Francisco. Most building managers allow it as long as we don't block traffic and we stay tidy. If you can give us a 15-foot working radius and confirm with your building, we'll bring everything we need.

My block has street cleaning on certain days — does that affect booking?

Not really. Tell us your street cleaning day and time when you book, and we'll schedule around it. Most San Francisco appointments end up on the opposite side of the week from your sweep day. If your only options are sweep-day mornings, we'll start before or finish after the window — we know the rhythm.

Do you do the wheels and brake dust deep? My hills make them brutal.

Every package includes wheels — but if you're driving Russian Hill, Nob Hill, Twin Peaks, or any of the climbs, the brake dust gets baked on harder than on flat ground. The Signature and Elite packages include a deeper wheel pass with dedicated cleaner and soft brushes. Cars driven daily in hill neighborhoods notice the difference within one detail.

Do I need to provide water or power at my place?

No. Our van carries everything — water tank, generator, professional-grade vacuums and tools. You don't need a driveway hookup, an outdoor outlet, or anything else. If you happen to have a tap or outlet and offer it, we'll use it; it's never required.

How do I book R1 Shine for a detail in San Francisco?

Tap any "Book on WhatsApp" button on this page, or message us directly at (408) 333-5113. Tell us the neighborhood, the package, and where the car will be parked.
