Parking in Richmond

The Richmond gives us a mix. A large share of homes on the avenues have a tuck-under garage with a short apron out front, which is where we work whenever we can: flat, private, and next to the house. Many buildings are two- or four-unit flats with a shared garage, and those work well too as long as one bay is clear. Along Clement, Balboa, and the numbered avenues nearest Geary, street parking is tight and heavily used by shoppers, so for curb-only cars we aim for a mid-block spot and book the morning before the commercial traffic fills in. Geary itself has bus lanes and rush-hour restrictions we stay clear of. Every block in the district has a sweep day; tell us yours and we will land on the other side of it.
Shared flats garages
Two- and four-unit buildings with a common garage are routine here. We run off the van, keep the floor dry, and stay out of the neighbors' bays.
Clement and Balboa curbs
Commercial blocks fill up by late morning. We book early on curb-only jobs and never work in a bus zone or during a posted Geary restriction.

The Richmond takes the marine layer straight off the ocean through the gap at Lands End and the Golden Gate, so the outer avenues see nearly as much fog as the Sunset, and the salt that rides in with it settles on paint overnight. Where the Richmond differs is in its trees. The whole southern edge of the district runs along Golden Gate Park, and the north side backs onto the Presidio, so cars on Fulton, Lake, and the cross streets sit under eucalyptus, cypress, and Monterey pine that drop sap, pollen, and sticky resin most of the year.
