Interior deep cleaning
in San Francisco, CA

Fog does strange things to a cabin. Street-parked cars in the Sunset and Richmond pull damp air in all night, so carpets never fully dry, windows wear a greasy film by morning, and a faint musty note settles into the seats. Add Fort Funston sand, Crissy Field dog hair, and a rideshare back seat, and a vacuum will not cut it. R1 Shine works curbside from a self-contained van and resets the whole cabin where the car sits. Full interior detailing is included in the Signature package from $220, at your home or office.

  • Mildew and damp-carpet extraction
  • Interior glass fog-film removal
  • Dog hair from Fort Funston and Crissy Field
  • Post break-in glass cleanup
  • Rideshare cabin turnarounds
  • Curbside and tight-garage service

San Francisco interiors fail quietly. There is no heat to bake a dashboard, but there is a marine layer that rolls over Twin Peaks most evenings and parks moisture inside every car that lives on the street. Floor mats stay damp, the underside of the carpet grows a smell nobody can place, and the inside of the windshield develops a film that smears instead of clearing when the defroster runs. Layer on sand from Ocean Beach walks, dog hair from a Fort Funston loop, and the occasional shattered window, and a city car collects a very specific kind of mess. Our interior detail is built around those conditions and around the reality that most of our San Francisco work happens at the curb.

Interior Detailing in San Francisco

What interior detailing solves for San Francisco drivers

Built around what cars in San Francisco actually deal with — not a generic feature list.

Musty carpets after months of fog

Cars parked outside in the Sunset, Richmond, and Marina soak up marine-layer moisture through door seals and floor vents night after night, and the carpet padding becomes a sponge that never dries in a cool garage either. We pull that trapped water out with hot-water extraction, treat the fibers against mildew, and leave the cabin ventilated so it dries fully.

Interior window film that smears every morning

That hazy layer on the inside of your windshield is off-gassed plastic and cabin moisture bonded together, and in fog season it returns within days of a wipe. We clean the glass with a two-towel method and a dedicated glass cleaner, then address the vent and dash residue that feeds it, so the defroster clears the view instead of streaking it.

Glass after a smashed window

A broken window leaves tempered glass pebbles in the seat tracks, door pockets, carpet padding, and down the HVAC vents, and they keep surfacing long after the replacement glass goes in. Once the window is replaced or covered, we vacuum and extract every pocket, shampoo the affected seats, and reset the cabin so the episode is finished. It is a routine job for us.

Dog hair from Fort Funston and Crissy Field

Sandy, salty dog hair from a Fort Funston cliff walk or a Crissy Field beach run weaves into cargo carpet and seat fabric in a way household vacuums ignore. We use rubber hair tools and stiff brushes to lift it, extract the sand underneath, and deodorize the cargo area. Heavy hair or packed sand carries a flat $30 surcharge.

Rideshare back seats in a city that rides everywhere

Drivers covering SFO runs, Mission nights, and the Financial District lunch rush put more strangers in their rear seats in a week than most cars see in a year. Spilled drinks, perfume, wet umbrellas, and scuffed door panels pile up. We shampoo the bench, clean the touch points, treat odors, and make the car ready for the next rating.

Garages built for a 1950s sedan

Noe Valley, Bernal, and Richmond District garages are narrow, low, and often shared, with the car parked nose-in and inches from a wall. Our vacuum and extractor hoses run from the van on the street, we work one side at a time, and we can pull the car to the curb for the doors-open stage if the space will not allow it.

The process

How we do interior detailing in San Francisco

The same standard everywhere we work — no shortcuts on the steps that matter for longevity.

  1. 1

    Remove and pre-treat

Pull out floor mats, car seats (if you're OK with it), and any loose items. Pre-treat visible stains and high-traffic areas so the cleaner has time to work before extraction.

  2. 2

Full vacuum — every surface, every crevice

Seats top and bottom, between the cushions, the rails under the seats, the trunk, the spare-tire well if accessible, door jambs, headliner if needed. The crevices a household vacuum can't reach are where pet hair, sand, and crumbs hide.

  3. 3

    Upholstery and carpet shampoo

Hot-water extraction with detail-grade shampoo lifts embedded dirt and stains out of fabric and carpet rather than smearing them around. We extract until the water comes back clean.

  4. 4

    Surface wipe-down

Dashboard, console, door panels, steering wheel, shifter, cup holders, vents. Detail-grade cleaner appropriate for each material — leather conditioner for leather, plastic-safe cleaner for trim, glass cleaner for screens.

  5. 5

    Glass — inside and out

Interior glass cleaned to streak-free, including the inside of the windshield where film builds up from food vapor and defrost cycles. This is the single biggest visible win on the inside of most cars.

  6. 6

    UV protection + final touches

Dashboard and dash-top trim get a UV-protective dressing that slows fading. Reinstall mats, replace any items we moved, final visual check. Trunk done last.

San Francisco interior detailing analysis

San Francisco cabins fight moisture, not heat, and most of them do it on the street

Interior detailing in San Francisco is a moisture problem first. The marine layer that settles over the western neighborhoods and the Marina most nights of summer, and the winter rain that follows, keep carpet padding damp in cars that never see a heated garage. That is where mildew starts, and where the inside-glass film comes from. The second factor is the way cars are used: dogs ride home from Fort Funston and Crissy Field in sandy coats, rideshare drivers run the airport and the Mission all night, and apartment dwellers in the Richmond and Sunset eat and work in the car because the street is the only parking they have. The third is glass. A smashed window is a fact of city parking, and the cleanup afterward is a careful extraction job rather than a crisis. All of this happens curbside or in a garage too tight to swing a door, so our van brings the power, the vacuums, and the extractor, and we work with the space the city gives us.

Fog moisture

Damp padding under the carpet is the root of most musty San Francisco cabins. Hot-water extraction and anti-mildew treatment address it; freshener does not.

Dogs and sand

Fort Funston and Crissy Field send hair and sand home together. Rubber hair tools and extraction lift both from cargo areas and rear seats.

Glass cleanup

After a break-in, tempered glass hides in tracks, pockets, and vents. We extract it thoroughly so it stops reappearing weeks later.

Curbside reality

Most of our San Francisco interiors are done at a legal curb space or in a narrow garage. The van is self-contained, so nothing is required from the building.

Frequently asked

Interior Detailing in San Francisco — questions

Don't see yours? Message us on WhatsApp — answers usually come back within an hour.

How much does interior detailing cost in San Francisco?

Deep interior cleaning with seat and upholstery shampoo, carpet cleaning, and interior UV protection is included in the Signature package at $220. Elite at $300 adds stain removal and premium interior treatment. Excessive pet hair or beach sand adds a flat $30. The price is the same at a curb in the Outer Sunset as it is in a Pacific Heights garage. For SUVs and oversized vehicles, any adjustment is confirmed before we begin.

Can you do interior detailing at the curb on my street in San Francisco?

Yes, and that is how most of our San Francisco interior work happens. We need a legal parking space with enough room to open the doors on at least one side, and the van parks as close as the block allows so the vacuum and extractor hoses reach. Tell us your street-cleaning day when you book and we schedule around it. Loading zones in front of apartment buildings and shared driveways work well too.

My car smells musty from the fog. Can you actually get rid of it?

In most cases, yes. The smell comes from moisture trapped in the carpet padding and under the seats, not from the surface fabric, so sprays and fresheners only cover it for a day. We extract the padding with hot water, treat the fibers against mildew, clean the vents where it recirculates, and leave the cabin ventilated to finish drying. If a leak or a blocked sunroof drain is feeding the moisture, we will point it out so the fix lasts.

Can you clean up the glass after a car break-in in San Francisco?

Yes, and we treat it as a routine interior job. Once the window has been replaced or covered, we extract the tempered glass from seat tracks, door pockets, carpet padding, and the vents, shampoo the affected seats and carpet, and put the cabin back in order. It is the step that stops you from finding pebbles of glass every time you reach under the seat.

Will dog hair from Fort Funston cost extra?

A normal amount of hair is part of the Signature interior detail. If the cargo area and seats are heavily coated, or sand from the beach is packed into the carpet, we add a flat $30 for the extra extraction time. We tell you before we start, and we bring the rubber hair tools and brushes that the job needs.

Which San Francisco areas do you cover for interior detailing?

Every San Francisco neighborhood, including Pacific Heights, the Marina and Cow Hollow, Russian Hill, Nob Hill, Noe Valley, the Mission and Mission Bay, SoMa, Potrero Hill and Dogpatch, the Inner and Outer Sunset, the Inner and Outer Richmond, Bernal Heights, Glen Park, the Haight, and Cole Valley, curbside or in your garage, Monday through Saturday, 8am to 6pm.
